Sliding Along Infinite Axiis of Existence
(uses the double "i" so no one pictures sliding on an infinite ax)
Most things, conditioned phenomena, exist on spectrums of being. We slide along, on some spectrums in only one direction, like the time spectrum. Others we may move back and forth, or just back, or not much at all. The spectrum of my height changed rapidly for about 20 years then started slowing down. It has stopped and now is slowly starting to move backwards. My spectrum of baldness seems to be holding as-is for now.
There is an almost infinite number of spectrums that define our experience of existence at any given moment. That’s all it can do though is describe a precise moment. And once described it has passed and now doesn’t exist because our position has changed on innumerable spectrums. We are changing, continuously. This isn’t a new concept. Heraclitus, once said, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.”
Maybe this is just a new way of thinking about it. A new way to visualize the idea. I’m primarily a visual thinker. <The writer is having an argument with his “inner monologue” right now about which way of thinking is the primary way.>
OK. Where was I? Right.
Spectrums of experience. Another way of looking at it could be that our awareness is stationary and all the spectrums of experience move through us. As a meditation I prefer this way of looking at it. To sit still and let all of the experience of being in the moment move through your awareness. An open dharma gate made up of boundless dharma gates and all you have to do is walk through, into full awareness. Kensho in Zen. (Easier said than done)
Even though these moments of kensho may not happen too often, reaching them is also a spectrum of experience. With regular practice it’s a spectrum that tends to move forward.
