Bonsai Table #5

$65.00

This was a fun design. I freehanded the curves around a couple of large knotholes that were open through the both sides of one of the boards. The material dictated the design the most on this table. It’s one of the larger tables in this group. The pressure treated wood of the legs is quite strong and stable. This will hold a weighty pot.

Overall size: 11.9375″ x 10.625 x 4, table top is 11.9375 x 9.75 inside the lip.

The table is unsealed. It would do best in an indoor space so the plywood top doesn’t break down. If you’d like to seal the wood then It would do OK outdoors.

If you want me to seal it include a note in your checkout process so we can talk about what sealant would be best for where you want to use the table.

Description

I tried to come up with names for these tables. I thought about naming them after cities, or dharma words, or proper names like Susan, or Bill. I couldn’t come up with anything that didn’t seem incredibly contrived. So “Bonsai table #” is what it is.

Considering how name and form – nama and rupa  – are such prominent links in the chain of dependent origination, you’d think naming things might come easier.

When it comes to names I prefer dependent origination to emptiness.  From my western perspective emptiness has a connotation that doesn’t seem to fit the concept well enough. Things, phenomena, aren’t empty exactly, they’re full of everything. They’re empty of anything inherent, but full of every cause and condition that brought it to be. Ultimately, the name isn’t really important at all. It’s the experience of bringing that truth into your being.

Super blurry pics 🙁 Turns out the lens on my phone is scratched. A lot. So think of this one as having “ambiance”. After the holidays I’ll probably replace my phone and can take better process shots again. Until then it’ll be soft focus like a falling in love scene in a 70s romance movie. The product shots I shoot with my wife’s Nikon digital SLR.

The tree in the product shots is wild caught privet, in training for about 2 or 3 years. The set up is a small 3 trunk forest group.
